Sample Course Projects

ME 574: Kinect CSG CAD

Basic CAD operations through Microsoft Kinect. Hand gestures are used to (a) create simple sketches, (b) extrude sketches and (c) translate/rotate primitives. The primitive data is automatically fed to OpenSCAD to create the resultant 3D shape.

ME 502: Sustainable designs
All the design (a) follow the structured design process, (b) conduct life-cycle/sustainability assessment of the completed designs and (c) are created for our community partners in the Washington State.

Service Projects

Kinect CAD with CS Capstone Design team

Cougar Quest Workshop (101: Engineering Design - An Immersive Experience)
A Kinect based CAD user experience initiated in Summer 2012 for Grades 7-12. The first workshop demonstrated through Kinect about basics of CAD, such as sketching, booleans and extrudes. OpenSCAD was used to visualize the 3D models created. Use of 3D printer was also demonstrated to the participants. A link to the past description of the project.
